Present Procedure
for cutting stuck casing on
Drilling PLATFORM
•Present Procedure
In the event, that we are unable to land off,
the14”casing string on its Mandrel Casing
hanger, the following steps will need to be
performed.
Present Procedure for cutting stuck casing
1. Run 14” casing.
2. Cement the 14” casing string in place.
3. Wait on Cement.
4. Remove any excess casing that may be sticking up
above the rig floor. (cut # ?)
5. Ensure that the appropriate scaffolding is erected to allow work to
be conducted safely. e.g. Breaking the connection under the BOP
6. Break the connection between the bottom of the BOP stack and
the top of the 18 ¾” 10K riser assembly.
7. Lift the BOP assembly 2-3ft off the top of the riser.
using the BOP crane/Hoist system.
Present Procedure for cutting stuck casing
8. Install the external casing cutting machine under the B.O.P to
perform an external cut on the 14” or 10 ¾” casing string, Note
the cut is to be made above the top of the upper Cameron 18 ¾”
10K hub top adaptor.
(cut # 1)

Present Procedure for cutting stuck casing
10. Remove the cutting tools. Lower the BOP assy on to the top of
the Cameron 18 ¾” adaptor and secure same.
11. Lay out the 14” or 10 ¾” casing stub.
12. Remove the BOP stack and place it, on to the BOP test
stump.
13. Drill adequate holes in 14” casing and attach individual lifting
slings. One set on to the top of the 18 ¾” riser assembly and
another set to the 14” casing string (simultaneously).
14. Calculate the length of 14” casing from the top of the wellhead
to the rig Floor an support its weight
15. Break the connection between the bottom of the riser and the
top of the Wellhead assembly.
Present Procedure for cutting stuck casing
16. Lift the riser assembly 2-3ft, off the top of MB wellhead
assembly and install the18 ¾” x 14” Emergency slips.
17. Install the external casing cutting machine under the riser and
cut the 14” or 10 ¾” casing string above the top of the
wellhead NT2 connection (cut # 2)
18. Remove the external casing cutting tools and lower the 18 ¾”
riser assy on to the top of the MB wellhead.
19. Lay out the 14” or 10 ¾” casing stub.
20. Lift the 18 ¾” riser assembly and lay out.
21. Install the wellhead NT2 adaptor and ICC machine.
22. Cut the 14” or 10 ¾” casing string below the top of the MB wellhead assy
as per procedure (cut #3)
Present Procedure for cutting stuck casing
1. Run 14” casing string.
2. Cement 14” casing string in
place
3. Waiting on Cement
4. Ensure that the appropriate
scaffolding is erected to allow
work to be conducted safely. e.g.
5. Break Connection under
BOP
6. Left BOP ASSY to
perform the first cut
• Associated Risk
7. Install External casing
cutter to perform the
first cut
•
Failure of BOP lifting devices
•
Personnel will need to work
under suspended load
8. Lift Casing stub and lay
out
9. Place BOP on test
stump.
10. Remove the casing
cutter and secure.
11. Drill Holes in casing OD to
Install lifting devise
Eg: Cameron fast loc
Connector @ BTM of
B.O.P
12. Lower lifting slings and
connect to 14” casing.
13. Lower lifting slings and connect
to 18 ¾” Riser assy.
14. Break NT2 connector located @
Wellhead MB Assy
15. lifting the 18 ¾” Riser assy to
access the 14 casing.
16. Install 18 ¾” x 14” Emergency
Slips
17. Install 14” casing cutter to
perform 2nd cut on 14”.
18. Remove casing cutter
form OD of casing and
secure.
19. Lift second 14” casing
stub and lay out.
20. Lift 18 ¾” Riser assy and
remove.

Why use an Alternative Internal Casing Cutting Machine (ICC)
for Cutting Stuck Casing ?
a)
This will eliminate the risk of personnel having to work under suspended
loads.
b) This option will also eliminate the need to perform a second external cut on
the casing string.
Steps
1. Run and cement the 14” casing string in place
2. Remove any excess casing, that may be sticking up, above the
rig floor (cut # ?)
3. Rig up ICC contingency cutting tools.
4. RIH with ICC Machine and perform an Internal cut, ±12in
above the top of the MB wellhead assembly. Cut # 1
5. Retrieve the ICC and lay out the14” casing stub.
6. Remove the BOP stack and place it on to the test stump.
7. Attach appropriate lift slings to the riser assembly, break the
connection between the bottom of the riser and the top MB
Wellhead assembly.

8. Lift the riser assembly off the top of MB wellhead
assembly and Lay out.
Eliminate the risk of personnel working under suspended Riser to cut casing
9. Install the internal casing cutting machine and cut the 14” casing string
below the top of the MB wellhead assy as per procedure (Final cut, # 2)
10. Run 14” casing string.
11. Cement 14” casing string in place
12. Run ICC while Waiting on Cement
13. Ensure that the appropriate scaffolding
is erected to allow work to be conducted
safely.
14. Install 14” casing cutter to
perform first cut on 14”.
15. Remove casing cutter
form ID of casing and
secure.
16. Lift the14” casing stub and
lay out.
No risk of personnel
working under load.

20. Lower lifting slings and
connect to 18 ¾” Riser assy.
21. Break NT2 connector located
@ the top of the MB Assy
22. lifting the 18 ¾” Riser assy to
access the 14 casing.
No risk of personnel
having to working under
