7. We ensure that waste is separated and recycled and dispose of the remainder legally, where applicable using registered waste carriers only and keeping a record of relevant paperwork.

Graeme Burston M.C.I.O.B, Director responsible for safety, Bovis Homes:

"I have been impressed with the commitment and dedication of the Tamdown Group towards Health & Safety and delivering a good service to time, cost and quality. Recently I had a meeting with Tamdown to discuss how they dealt with manual handling assessments, Bovis Homes was so impressed with the Tamdown Group's manual handling risk assessment system that this has now been adopted throughout the business as a model of best practice.”

“Tamdown are certainly a company that I would recommend.”

Working together with our local community HCS (formally Trident) work experience for local students

The Tamdown Group regularly offer 2 week work placements for local students every year through the HCS formally known as the Trident scheme, historically this has been predominately office based, however the Tamdown Group are looking to extend this to Site.

HCS has a well-established track record of supporting young people between the ages of 14-19 to prepare for life beyond the classroom.

The aim of the work experience offered by Tamdown is to help young people improve their employability skills and develop as individuals, as well as making the work placement process as easy as possible for employers, learners, schools and colleges.

We fully support our local County Council and regularly attend an annual employment evenings which evolves local employers setting up stands and providing local students in their last year of school information about careers within our organisation.

What’s my Job?

Head of HR Mark Waine thoroughly enjoyed participating in “

What's my Job?"

a work-related learning event for all the students in Year 10 at The Ramsey College in Halstead, Essex. The aim of this event was to give the students an insight into the wide range of careers open to them, to illustrate what it takes to achieve at this level and to provide an opportunity for the Students to ask questions.

Mark has also participated in a number of other educational activities; one of his most memorable was giving a “bob the builder” talk to four year old children at a local nursery.

In addition to participating in career events at local schools, Mark has committed to a mentoring programme with a student at Anglia Ruskin University studying for a degree in Human Resource Management.

Mock Interviews

With three school age children of his own, Director Andy Parton fully understands the importance of education and business working together to support young people within the community and regularly gives time and commitment to schools and colleges across Essex.

In addition to taking part in a “E Buddy” e-mentoring scheme for local students, Andy has recently participated in a mock interview event at Alec Hunter Secondary school Braintree, aiming to help students prepare for employment following education.

Mentoring Programme with degree students from Anglia Ruskin University

The Tamdown Group has a close working relationship with its local university One example of this is the Degree students mentoring programme which Tamdown has played a part in for a number of years.

The programme involves a series of one to one sessions with degree students is designed to match students at university with individuals in a relevant job, who make a commitment to help them gain an understanding of their work environment, its culture, its expectations, its demands and even its frustrations.

Employers nationally identify the lack of business awareness among graduates as being a significant barrier to progress.

Addressing this key concern, Anglia Ruskin University's Employer Mentoring Scheme has been developed as a targeted program, giving individual students support and mentoring from a graduate or businesses..
