What Happens When
How High School Works
Semestering

All grade 10 students must take 8 courses
(4 per semester)
1st semester: Sept to Jan – write exams
2nd semester: Feb to June – write exams

You should take at least 1 grade 11 courses
Classes


Every class will have a different set of students don’t pick courses because your friend are in it
(you probably won’t be in the same class)
How High School Works
Passing or Failing

If you fail a course, it doesn’t mean
you fail the year, it just means you may
have to take that course again.

All students need to meet the Nova Scotia
Graduation Requirements in order to graduate
(this will be explained later). These requirements
have nothing to do with what you want to be when
you grow up.
Academic Support
C.P. Allen offers support for students having academic
difficulties - just like junior high:
•
•
•
•
Resource: If you require adaptations to meet course outcomes
Learning Center: If you require a program plan with
individualized outcomes
ESL Resource: If your first language is not English.
Peer Tutoring: If you would benefit from help from other
students
