According to the Geneva Convention treaty (1949), this facility has been agreed
by the countries that signed it.
In order to apply for International Driving Permit (IDP), You need:
i) Valid driving license for Class B2 or D.
ii) Photocopy of the above license (Both sides).
iii) Original and photocopy of identity card (Both sides).
iv) 2 passport size photographs.
v) Complete Form JPJ L1.
vi) Payment of RM150 per year.
Attend to any Malaysian Road Transport Department Office (JPJ) offices around
the country to submit your IDP application. You can also go to the AAM office
(Automobile Association of Malaysia) to submit your IDP application. You need to
surrender your domestic license to JPJ as you are not allowed to hold 2 types of
licenses at a time. If you no longer require the IDP, you may go to the JPJ offices to
get back your domestic license. It should be noted that renewal fee for IDP is
RM150 per annum, compared with domestic license which is only RM30 per
annum.
The IDP can be renewed with the following procedures:
1) The license may be renewed in Malaysia only.
2) Provide 2 passport size photographs.
3) Present your IDP for renewal.
4) Complete Form JPJ L1.
5) RM150 per annum for the renewal fee.
Traffic Regulations
Vehicle not permitted:
• No motor vehicle may be driven or kept unless it is:
- Insured
- displaying a current road tax
Breach of this regulation is an offence.
Driving and Cycling in Malaysia:
•Acts which would be crimes and therefore render the offender liable to
persecution by the police: accident with a motor vehicle or cycle involving death or personal injury

The followings are offence under traffic regulations:

Driving without license
Driving or cycling under the influence of alcohol or drug.
Dangerous driving or cycling
Failure to observe the speed limit
Failure to observe the road sign (‘Stop”, “Give Way”,
“No Entry”, “ Keep Left”, etc)
Failure to observe normally accepted traffic regulations.
Failure to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.
