Officials
(NEO)
Program
Issues to be Addressed
•
•
•
•
LGUs should have a solid grasp
of the national government
agenda and its relationship to
local governance;
LGUs need to build-up the
competitiveness and economic
capacity of their local area to
improve its economic future;
LGUs need to enhance its
capacity for climate adaptability
and disaster resiliency
Local economic development
strategy should be an integral
part of the broader strategic
planning process that promotes
sustainable inclusive growth in
the local communities
Program Objective

The NEO Program aims to capacitate
the elected officials of 2013, both newly
minted and veterans of their positions,
to be able to translate their own vision
and agenda for their LGU into a feasible
plan that they can implement over the
course of their term.

 geohazards are really a major threat to
society, costing lives, disrupting infrastructure
and destroying livelihoods
 understanding the associated processes and
gaining a comprehensive knowledge of the
location and behavior of these hazards is pivotal
for risk assessment, hazard mitigation and
adaptation, reduction of vulnerability and
preparedness
 the importance of understanding geohazards
to the disaster-proned areas in building a
disaster and climate adaptive and resilient LGU
is necessary
 geohazard maps determine possible
settlement sites, properties and infrastructure
that are most likely to be affected
 we must use these maps to avoid exposing
our homes and our people to disaster risks
The activity is intended for local
government units and communities to
increase their level of awareness on the
utility and application of geohazard maps
and as a tool in mitigating and managing
natural hazards.
Specifically, the one-day training shall enable LGUs to:
explain what geohazard maps is all about, it’s uses
and application in disaster preparedness planning.
discuss what geologic hazards are present in their
respective areas, how and why they occur
read and interpret geohazard maps & tell what areas
are likely to be affected
appreciate various government programs and
technologies in disaster risk reduction
It is expected that after the training, LGUs and their
communities shall have:
 good understanding on how to read and interpret
geohazard maps
 acquisition on how they could make use of
geohazard maps for disaster risk reduction and
preparedness planning
 appreciation on various government program and
technologies on disaster risk reduction
 adapted disaster risk information to update their
community disaster profile
