•The Naval Sea Systems
Command is comprised of
command staff, headquarters
directorates, affiliated Program
Executive Offices (PEOs) and
numerous field activities.
•Naval Sea Systems Command
(NAVSEA) is the largest of the
Navy's five system commands.
•With a force of 60,000 civilian,
military and contract support
personnel, NAVSEA engineers,
builds, buys and maintains the
Navy's ships and submarines
and their combat systems.
•NAVSEA has the further responsibility of establishing and
enforcing technical authority in combat system design and
operation. These technical standards use the organization's
technical expertise to ensure systems are engineered
effectively, and that they operate safely and reliably.
NAVSEA-ARL-SHPE Goals
•Enhance Hispanic K-12 student engagement with STEM
•Integrate NAVSEA-related STEM engagement tools into
SHPE’s curriculum
•Build relationships with SHPE’s national, regional and
chapter leaders
•Increase STEM awareness and mentoring opportunities in
Hispanic youth through increasing SHPE Junior Chapters

Goal:
To promote knowledge, awareness, interest and
motivation about STEM and college opportunities
Elements:
• 100 participants (K-12 students and their
parents)
• Held throughout the month of October in NAVSEA targeted markets at universities and schools
• SHPE chapter members execute Noches, curriculum and interactive activities
• Dedicated SHPE staff guide volunteers
• Three hour event has two tracks – k-12 and parents
• Parents workshops held in Spanish/bilingually

• Heat and Thermodynamics

• Atom – hands on activities
• Aerodynamic concepts of gravity,
lift, drag and thrust
• Volunteer training video/curriculum

• Coordinate STEM speakers, university tours, and corporate speakers
Results:
Encourages HS students to pursue college and STEM degrees.
