Scouting for Food
The Purpose of Scouting For Food:
• To help meet the needs of the hungry in our community
• To collect non-perishable food - (cans, bagged or boxed
items, etc.)
• To support local food banks and charitable organizations
that distribute food to the needy at no cost
• To create a practical experience in the principle of doing a
“Daily Good Turn”
Scouting for Food - Recipients
This year, our Scouting for Food campaign will
support the following organizations:
• Catholic Charities of Durham
• Urban Ministries of Durham
Scouting for Food – Time Frame
The Mawat District Unit wide competition will begin:
April 6, 2015
The Mawat District Unit wide competition will end:
May 8, 2015
Scouting for Food - Competition
•
The Mawat District Unit that collects the most
food, by weight, will receive a $100.00 gift
card, redeemable at the Occoneechee Scout
Store
•
The Patrol/Den etc. within each Unit that
collects the most food, by weight, will receive
a Pizza Party or Ice Cream Sundae Party on a
date of their choosing

Scouting for Food – How To
1. Communicate this Service Project at your
March Unit/Patrol/Pack/Den etc. meetings
2. Solicit a Unit coordinator to collect and store
the donated food.
3. Ensure collected food storage boxes/bins etc.
are labeled with Unit/Patrol/Pack/Den number
etc. for recording
4. Be creative on how you collect food items
5. Follow all BSA Scout safety rules at all times
Scouting for Food – How To ‘Ideas’
1. Have Scouts bring food to monthly meetings
2. Collect food door-to-door in your
neighborhood, accompanied by a parent, if
applicable. (Must wear Class A Uniform)
3. Use ‘Bag Drop’ method (Next Slide)
4. Do something you have used in the past

Pick up ‘Drop’ bags at March District Roundtable Meeting
(March 19, 2015) or contact Tony Campione to arrange a
Drop bag pick-up time
*Distribute Drop bags in your neighborhoods on
Saturday, April 11, 2015
*Pick up Drop bags on Saturday, April 18, 2015

Scouting for Food
When your Unit has finished collecting food,
have your Unit Coordinator fill out reporting
form
Then contact Tony Campione to record your
results and coordinate food drop-off
