Foundation
In 1988 a Memorial Trust was established in the memory
of Kenneth James ‘Jim’ McPherson who died in an aerial
ambulance crash along with the pilot, patient and nurse
at Bundaberg on 21st June 1987.
Jim left a legacy of commitment to ambulance
education, to continued learning and developing new
skills.
The Trust became a Foundation in honour of Jim and all
others who have given their lives in the line of duty.
About the Foundation
• In 1988 a program of awards to winners of skills
competitions commenced.
• In 2001 further professional and personal
development grants were introduced.
• Since 1988 a total of $254.450 dollars have been
awarded to 116 QAS recipients.

Research Priorities
• Clinical priorities including acute respiratory
events; trauma management, clinical decision
making and area medical management
• Educational issues such as delivery methods and
professional development strategies
• Operational systems issues including appropriate
segmentation of workload; impact of health
information/advice services on QAS activity
levels, AMPDS and crew deployment

clinical activity for many years.

with extensive research publications.
• Past Surgeon General in the
Australian Defence Force with
extensive experience in academic
systems, clinical practice, military

world disaster response.
