Statewide Provider Database:
Goals



Individual level: to help providers locate
services for clients
Agency level: to assess gaps in resources
and develop new resources in areas of
local need
System level: to reduce inefficiencies and
encourage collaboration among service
providers.
Background Information



Began as a pilot in Cook County as
part of a project funded by the
MacArthur Foundation in 2002
Expanded statewide and contracted
by DCFS in 2004
Launched for use by all DCFS
caseworkers in 2008

KEY POINTS



SPD contains information on both DCFS
contracted providers AND community
providers who do not have DCFS contracts.
SPD information is updated regularly, but you
can help by alerting SPD staff to needed
updates.
SPD saves you time by searching all the
available resources for the closest provider
that offers the service you are looking for.
SPD Login Procedure



 Enter your temporary
password. After your
initial login, you will be
required to change your
password.

SPD Organization




Information is organized according to
Agency, Location, Program, and Service.
Each agency may have multiple locations.
Each location may offer multiple
programs.
Each of these programs may offer many
different services at each of their
locations.
SPD Contents & Key Features





Over 1,600 Agencies, 3,600 Programs, and
17,000 Services
Contains information on over 50 types of
services, such as counseling, case
management, mentoring, tutoring, etc.
Can be searched within a particular area and
will provide information sorted by distance
from a client’s location
Provides information about all of the
information needed to access the services
Provider and client information is geocoded
Methods for Searching SPD




CANS Report used only by DCFS workers with a
DCFS client ID number
Manual Report lets you select service types
and features in a specified location
Agency Report lets you see all the programs
and/or locations of a specific agency
Keyword Search lets you find information
related to a specific topic or word (such as
“Church” or “camp”)
CANS Recommended Services
Report
 The system will automatically generate a list of
providers who offer needed services based on the child’s
most recent CANS assessment and the child’s current
address. This feature is for DCFS case workers only.
Manual Service Provider Report


You can use the manual service provider
report to search for services with a
particular client in mind or
When searching for a listing of all the
resources in a particular area
Program Types Defined
 Mental health – programs that offer counseling and therapy services
 Substance abuse – programs that focus solely on substance abuse
 Parenting – programs that emphasize improving parenting skills through
training or coaching. Programs for teen parents are often listed as “mental
health programs” if their primary focus is delivering mental health services
to teen parents
 Early Childhood – programs that focus on child development for children
ages 0-5
 Domestic Violence – programs that offer a range of services to help
families cope with domestic violence.
 Nonclinical – programs without a clinical focus such as after school or
recreational activities, Family Advocacy Centers, utility assistance, or
vocational services.



Report is created by clicking on program
name.
Provides details pertaining to access and
utilization of services






Agency Report



The agency report allows you to pull
up a listing of information on any
agency in SPD.
Lists information about each of the
agency’s locations and the programs
that are offered at each location.
Clicking the name of any of an
agency’s programs will allow you to
access the DPR for that program.
Keyword Search


The keyword search allows you to
search for a particular service,
evidence based practice, services in a
specific language, etc.
The keyword search lacks the
geocoding feature - search returns are
statewide rather than within a
particular zipcode

SPD Info is the supplemental site to the
Statewide Provider Database and is
available to the general public as well as
SPD users.
It offers information, grouped by category,
about organizations and events which may
be of service to your clients.
