What is IMDS?

IMDS = International Material Data System.

A
worldwide
system
which
captures
all
materials,
substances as well as their respective quantities as used in
the Automotive Industry. IMDS is based on a Secure
Internet system hosted by EDS in Germany. A log-in is
required to access the confidential data areas.
Who’s In It?

As Main OEMs the following form part of the current
Team: BMW, Mini, Chrysler, Fiat, Ferrari, Maserati,
Iveco, Ford, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar,
Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru, GM, GM Daewoo,
Opel, SAAB, Vauxhall, Porsche AG, Hyundai, Kia
Motors, Isuzu, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Renault,
Dacia, Renault Samsung Motors, SsangYong Motors,
Suzuki, Toyota, VW, Audi, Skoda, Volvo, Volvo
Group, Renault Trucks…and the list is growing…
Why IMDS?

Main 3 Reasons are:
- Reach the TOTAL of 95% Recyclability of every
vehicle that reaches End Of Life by 2015,
- Aid in reducing & removing all restricted substances
and noting all reportable substances in vehicles,
- Aid in recycling vehicles when they reach their End
Of Life.
How is This Done?

IMDS, Methode & Supplier Obligations

IMDS is NOT an OPTION…it IS an OBLIGATION.

This obligation comes from our OEM Customers.

If we fail, our product will not be allowed to be
shipped, production lines will stop and we will have to
pay for the stoppages…consequently losing business.

This can be avoided if you provide us with IMDS data
before PSW/PPAP submission of your components.
Dealing with Failures

If a supplier fails to meet IMDS criteria we will have to input the
data of the bought-in components ourselves…BUT this will be
billed back to our respective supplier.

Why? Because we have sub-contracted the IMDS data input and
our sub-contractor will bill us for doing the data that a supplier
should have done.

If business with a supplier is too little to justify any of the above
extra cost, then, this will be dealt on a one-to-one basis, but this
is only the EXCEPTION.

Incorrect submissions are treated as NO Submissions…so it is
important to get on board using official training. You are always
welcome to ask for assistance!
