NC Detention Center Facts
There are 9 Detention Centers statewide.
Detention Centers are a part of the Division of
Juvenile Justice within the Department of Public
Safety.
Detention Centers are a secure, temporary
facility where juveniles stay while waiting to go
to court, placement or back home.
As of July 1, 1983, all juveniles had to be
housed in juvenile detention centers as a
federal legislative mandate that juvenile and
adult offenders be separated.
NC Detention Center Facts
In North Carolina juveniles are divided into two
classes:
Undisciplined Juveniles
Delinquent Juveniles
Juvenile cases are considered adjudications, not
