BCG
Vaccination for Tuberculosis (TB)
Only 50-60% effective
Will only possibly cause a positive PPD (TB
Skin test) for 3-5 years after it is given. After 5
years the BCG has no effect on PPD.
A PPD over 14 mm is NEVER due to a BCG
In general BCG does not change
how we interpret a PPD (TB Skin
test).
Who needs a TB Test?
Students from areas with a high prevalence of
TB
All countries in these regions:
* Africa
*Eastern Mediterranean
*Southeast Asian
*Some European Countries
Students with known Positive PPD:

questionnaire

done within the 6 months prior to arrival on
campus from a US facility.
Students without this chest x-ray will have
one ordered for them here. It is covered by
their International Health Insurance.
