What is TI-Nspire Technology?

TI-Nspire ...

• • is software which can be run either on a PC, a Mac or a TI-Nspire handheld.

brings all commonly used software in math & science classes together in one learning environment.

The documents you create with TI-Nspire Technology can be exchanged between PC, a Mac or a handheld. They are also accessible via the TI-Nspire Document Player, which is available either online or offline.

4 | Lesson A.1

Different applications in one learning environment

• • • • • • • • Calculator application Graphs application Geometry application Lists & Spreadsheet application Data & Statistics application Notes application Vernier Dataquest application Question application (only in the Teacher Software) Extra tools: Program editor, Script editor, …

TI-Nspire Family TI-Nspire CAS Family

• • • The TI-Nspire solution brings together different representations including graphical, geometric, numeric,...

Graphs, geometric constructions, data tables, mathematical expressions/symbols and text are dynamically linked.

All calculations are numeric.

• • Is the same as TI-Nspire but has the extra features of the Computer Algebra System (CAS).

Calculations are numeric or symbolic.

TI-Nspire Technology software

There are three licensed software products: • • • Student software Teacher software TI-Navigator Teacher software

Student Software Teacher Software TI-Navigator Teacher Software 8 | Lesson A.1

TI-Nspire Student software

• • It is a software for PC or Mac with the same functionalities as the TI-Nspire handheld, but with the benefits of a larger screen and a computer keyboard.

The software is available in two versions: TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS.

• • • • View, author, edit documents.

Create and print reports.

Manage documents on connected handheld.

Seamlessly continue work from the handheld on a computer platform.

• At retail the Student software comes bundled with a handheld.

TI-Nspire Teacher software

Is the same software as the student software, also available in two versions, TI Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS, but comes with extra features: • • • • • For presentation: Built-in TI-SmartView™ Emulator - The emulator's features integrate well with interactive whiteboards and digital projectors.

For Assessment: Question Application - This feature allows you to create questions and assess the students.

For Classroom management: you can exchange documents in an easy way and manage a class set of handhelds.

For organizing your content: you have a Content Workspace to search for and filter content.

Docking Station to charge batteries or exchange files between class sets and the teacher computer.

10 | Lesson A.1

TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher software

• Through a wireless network of TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS handhelds or laptops, the TI-Nspire Navigator enables: • • • Instant Assessment: teachers can instantly gauge understanding of the students progress.

Increased Student Engagement: Any student can present their work from anywhere in the room.

Maximized Classroom Learning Time: Wirelessly transfer documents and collect, grade, save and record students' work.

11 | Lesson A.1

Exchanging documents

TI-Nspire Docking Station and Docking Station CX

Are classroom solutions for sending documents to handhelds, upgrading multiple handhelds at a time and storing and recharging class sets.

12 | Lesson A.1

Docking Station Docking Station CX

Exchanging documents

TI-Nspire Computer Link software.

Is software to share files between a handheld and a computer: educators and students can quickly and easily link a single TI-Nspire handheld or TI-Nspire CAS handheld to a single classroom or lab computer in order to: • • • Capture pictures into documents, or save screenshots as image files on your computer.

Back up and transfer documents between a handheld and a computer.

Update the handheld's operating system on a single, connected handheld.

13 | Lesson A.1

Accessories

TI-Nspire ViewScreen™ panel

• • When projecting from a standard overhead, the TI-Nspire ViewScreen panel is required for any connected TI Nspire handheld or TI-Nspire CAS handheld.

Also for the CX-handhelds.

14 | Lesson A.1

Accessories

Interchangeable keypad (only for TI-Nspire handhelds)

• Insert the interchangeable TI-84 Plus Keypad and continue using the TI Nspire handheld alongside TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition graphing calculators.

15 | Lesson A.1

Accessories

Data Collection – tools

• • • Data collection tools from TI and Vernier Software & Technology can be used with TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS Technology. Several sensors from Vernier can be connected via the EasyLink™ to the built-in USB port of the handheld to collect data during science experiments.

Via the TI-Nspire Lab Cradle you can connect several sensors at a time and use fast rate sampling.

16 | Lesson A.1

Rechargeable Battery (Lithium Ion)

• • •

How to charge?

Connecting to your computer via a USB port Using the wall charger/adapter Using a TI-Nspire Docking Station

17 | Lesson A.1

Exam acceptance

Press-to-Test:

• • • The TI-Nspire handhelds are permitted for testing and accepted at several exams.

The built-in Press-to-Test mode temporarily blocks access to all personal data and .tns documents and certain features that can be not allowed during testing.

The Press-to-Test mode for TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handhelds is a fast way to configure students’ handhelds on exam days.

18 | Lesson A.1

PublishView™

In the Student software as well as the Teacher software and TI-Navigator Teacher software, you can design a PublishView™ Document. In one document you can insert: • • • TI-Nspire apps; Rich text and hyperlinks; Images and videos.

This document can be printed or published on a web-page.

You can use the TI-Nspire Document Player.

19 | Lesson A.1

Lua Scripting

Lua scripting is offered as part of TI-Nspire software and operating system (version 3.2). The capability to author and play Lua scripts within a TI-Nspire document is especially important for the creation of science simulations on the TI-Nspire platform.

Adding Lua scripting to the TI-Nspire platform is a first step toward a long planned programming environment that supports math and science curricula.

20 | Lesson A.1

In this lesson you learned that…

• • • • • • TI-Nspire Technology combines all commonly used applications in math & science classes. It runs on a handheld, a PC or a Mac.

There a two types of TI-Nspire Technology software: TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS.

There are three types of handhelds: the Clickpad, the Touchpad and the CX handhelds.

There are three types of computer software: the Student software, the Teacher software and TI-Navigator Teacher software.

TI-Nspire TI-Navigator Teacher software creates a wireless network environment, that increases the students’ engagement in class, makes it easy to send documents and assess the students’ progress.

If you don't have TI-Nspire computer software, you'll need to download TI Nspire Computer Link Software in order to connect the handheld to the PC and make screen captures or update the OS.

21 | Lesson A.1

In this lesson you learned that…

• • • • • Several sensors can be connected to the handheld or the computer, to collect data during science experiments.

The TI-Nspire Lab Cradle is available to do multi-sensors or fast rate sampling.

The built-in Press-to-Test mode temporarily blocks access to all personal data and .tns documents and certain features that can be not allowed during testing. You can create a PublishView document where you can integrate different TI-Nspire applications, rich text and hyperlinks, images and videos on one page.

TI-Nspire Technology supports Lua scripting, which is especially interesting for the creation of science simulations on the TI-Nspire platform.
