This course explores the dynamics of youth involvement in politics,
mediated through new media: text message(made more colorful by
ubiquitous of “jejemon” language), Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and
other forms of media. Although the course avowedly takes the
position that citizenship entails rights coupled with responsibilities,
it does so not by preaching a stringent menu of “what to do’s”, but
taking the students to an enjoyable journey of social involvement
that allows them “learn by doing.”As an example, course
requirements include the production of materials (posters, jingles,
or audio video presentations) that support a certain advocacy.
The objective of this course is to re-orient and re-build the trust
and faith of our youth in our institutional and non-institutional
elements of our democratic system towards the real transformation
in the future of Public Service.
