and said that his mother
was "an active worker in
the Garvey movement."

Malcolm grew up in a
proud household
whose father was not
afraid of anyone. His
family was driven out
of Omaha by the KKK

Home Life
He experienced
violence not only of
whites but his mother
and father argued
quite a bit. His father
also beat his mother
and they both beat the
children.
A Collage

blacks looked down
on folks from
Roxbury.

disturbed by black
who thought
themselves better than
others putting on
phoney accents talking
about being in

Malcolm was
overwhelmed when he
arrived in Harlem--it
was 7th heaven. "It

'schooled' in his
hustling trade by the

A ReEducation
It was while he was in
jail that he came under
the influence of the
teaching of the
Honorable Elijah
Muhammad, which
greatly changed his
life.
