What is an acronym?
Acronym?
Mr. Vain Capp is an acronym. It is a word
formed by combining the first letters of words
in a list that you want to remember. People
use acronyms all of the time. Can you think of
an acronym that you already use?
NASA?
NASA is an acronym for the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration.
VCR is an acronym for Video Cassette
Recorder.
Vain Capp is an acronym for a language arts
grammar topic.

Your Turn:
Now that you know an easy way to remember the
eight parts of speech take out a Cornell notes sheet
and write notes to include the definitions and
examples for each one!!!!
Word//Definition//Sentence example(3 columns).
Now, create a POSTER with an acronym of your
own for the parts of speech.
Use a plain sheet of paper.
Parts of Speech
Verb-action word that tells what the subject
does// Mrs. Mahre likes to run down the hall.
Adjective- describes a noun//Mrs. Mahre has
a black and white Jack-Rat terrier.
Interjection- shows emotion//Shazam! Mrs.
Mahre enjoys chasing that pup!
Noun- person, place, thing or idea// Palmer
Middle School is a great place to study.
Parts of Speech
Conjunction- connects parts of a
sentence//Mrs. Mahre loves to walk in the
park but not during a hot afternoon.
Coordinating…two more categories of

Adverb- tells how, when, how often, and in
what manner an action is done// Mrs. Mahre
will quickly take roll as class begins.
Parts of Speech
Pronoun- takes the place of a noun// Her
name is Mrs. Mahre, and she is a teacher.
Subject-object, possessive, reflexsive
Preposition- relates a noun or pronoun to
some other word in the sentence// Mrs. Mahre
has been teaching language arts for about
four years, but she has taught school for 17
years.
Prepositions:
Why do we say that a prepositional phrases is
a PIG?
Preposition: anything an airplane can do to a
cloud.
Describes position.
