PROFILE
We take this opportunity to bring
your attention to the importance of
alternative learning through
experiential training being imparted
as a means to aid all round
personality development to children
and adults of all age groups.
Experiential learning has evolved to provide
effective means for students to continue to learn
and develop throughout life. We all learn through
experience: by burning ourselves we learn to
avoid heated objects, by testing our parent’s
patience we learn about the acceptable standards
of behavior and the consequences of
transgressing. Some things simply cannot be
learnt from books or lectures. Examples ranging
from riding a bicycle to making friends. So
experiential learning is a natural process on
which all- developmental training aims to
capitalize.
Our aim is to expose students/
participants in a structured
manner, topics like development
of team-work, co-operation,
communication, leadership and
fear of failure etc.
In order to achieve these aims, Altitudes, an
outbound adventure training organization works
exclusively in this area. Our various adventure
and excursion based programmes are aimed at
putting students in situations where they actually
experience and have a taste of the above. The
students through our carefully designed
adventure activities like rock-climbing, trekking,
navigation exercises, rope courses and others,
experience real situations of thrill and feel a
sense of achievement. Alongside there are trips
planned to visit wild life parks, treks through
mountain villages, temples and other areas of
interest.
The entire focus will be on exposing our
students to the world of adventure, nature
and Indian heritage. All along the trainers
will brief and debrief of the related learning.
Before going any further we would like to
mention the importance of having a
technically correct team to accomplish our
goals. The safety requirements for any
adventure/ outbound program can never be
stressed enough. We give below the profile
of some of our key members who will be
supervising and conducting our programs.
The Team
• Late. Col. J. C. Joshi: - Was the of Head
of Altitudes till he left for heavenly abode in
April 06, 2006. He was an Everest
Climber from the first successful Indian
expeditions in 1965. An Arjun Award
winner, Ex- Commandant High Altitude
Warfare School,(HAWS) Indian Army
and ex- Principal, Nehru Institute of
Mountaineering, all our instructors have
been handpicked and trained by him. As a
mark of respect to him we have decided
that his profile will always be 1st in our
Company Profile.
Anit Sah: -(Head Operations: Adventure Activities) Former and now
a guest instructor at the Nehru Institute of
Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. 38 years of
age he has climbed over 30 Himalayan
peaks and was the youngest member at the
age of 16 and a half years of an Everest
expedition in 1992, failing to reach the
summit by 100 meters of the peak and
thereby making history as the youngest
climber attempting to climb Mt. Everest
at that time.
Rahul Sah: Deputy Head ( Adventure
& Corporate Programmes) Has done all his
mountaineering courses from HIM Darjeeling
and NIM Uttarkashi. He has climbed a virgin
Peak “Sangthang” (6602 meters) with the Indian
army as chief instructor amongst others that
include “Thelu” (6002 meters) with class 10th
students of Birla Vidya Mandir Nainital and
Chougal (5638 meters)
Tusi Sah :- Is the newest member
of the Altitudes team. An avid trekker
and an accomplished climber has to
her credit among others Mt. Everest
which she climbed a few years ago.
The latest feather in her cap is her
conquest of the Kanchenjunga peak
in May this year, the first Indian
woman to do so.
Kusum Chauhan Sr. Program Manager :
Is a
qualified instructor and an experienced climber who has done
all her mountaineering courses from NIM Uttarkashi which
include Adventure, Skiing, Basic, Advance & Liaison Officer
course. She was also a guest instructor at the NIM Uttrakashi.
Apart from the various treks she also has the following Peaks
to her credit. Sudarshan Parvat (6507 mts), Bhagirathi 2 (6512
mts), Chemcer Kangari (6622 mts), Bhrigupanth (6772
mts), Satopanth (7775 mts), Shitidhar (5540 mts ) & Chhanguj
(6640 mts). Her role in the organisation is to Conduct of
Adventure Programs all over India. Preparing program
modules suited for different age groups and its execution.
Taking theoretical and practical classes regarding adventure
activities. Preparing of Itineraries for Himalayan Treks in the
lower and higher reaches of the Himalaya. Execution of the
above mentioned itinerary in the capacity of Trekking Guide.
Participating in Mountaineering Expeditions as an assistant
mountain guide. Conduct of Rock Climbing Courses. Liaison
with foreign mountaineering expeditions to Indian Himalayas.
We have a comprehensive training program that is followed
during the stay of the participants at our camp. We have a
permanent team of 55 instructors hence this adventure
training and activities are conducted by our team
Mountaineering Instructors who have scaled at least 5 to 7
Himalayan peaks above 7000mtrs. The instructors handle on
an average at least 14000 kids/ adults every year for the last
14 yrs. All our instructors are trained from reputed
Mountaineering Institutes of India. These courses include
basic course, Advance Course, Survival, Search and rescue
and Method of Instruction. Our safety record is impeccable
and the challenges offered to the students are commensurate
with the instructor’s experience. After all the level and quality
of the adventure and exposure can only be as good as the
credentials of the instructors and trainers. In this regard there
is no compromise on our behalf.
Next important aspect of these programs is the quality of
food and accommodation arrangements for the participants.
There is a very scientific basis for determining the number of
calories and content of food required during the treks and
other physically challenging activities and how the content
changes with different altitudes. We at Altitudes adhere to
the strict norms laid by National Mountaineering institutes
regarding optimal nutritional intake and plan our meals
around them. The quality of tents, sleeping bags and other
technical equipment like ropes, harnesses etc is also strictly
maintained to make the trip a comfortable and memorable
experience for the trekker / camper students. In the end it’s
the learning as an individual and the collective experience
that matters. The children/participant should leave the
program with increased self esteem and greater belief in
their awareness of nature and heritage.
