Department of Chemistry
Chittagong University of Engineering
and Technology
Message
Prof. Dr. Ranajit Kumar Sutradhar
Head, Department of Chemistry
Chemistry is a very exciting branch of science. Basically it is about knowing and
investigating the structure and reactions of substances of matter. It is a central
science bridging many aspects of other sciences, physical and biological, opening a
door to many technological developments.
The Department of Chemistry disseminates knowledge of Chemistry and Chemical
Technology to the undergraduate students of all engineering disciplines and as well
as offers post-graduate degree, like M. Phil. The department currently has 10
postgraduate students. Its faculty strength consists of 8 academic members who lead
high-profile research in a variety of areas, including organic, applied, analytical,
environmental, and physical chemistry. The department has good instrumentation
facilities that serve the needs of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate research
groups, such as, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrophotometer, UV-VIS
Spectrophotometer, Magnetic Susceptibility Balance, Sophisticated Electronic
Balance, Rotary Evaporator,, Ultracentrifuge Machine, Compact Chiller, Muffle
Furnace, Melting point apparatus etc.
Introduction
1.
Chemistry is one of the core-subjects of Science and Technology.
2.
The Department of Chemistry takes pride in its teaching excellence and
advanced research facilities.
3.
Since 1968, the establishment year of this Institution, the Department of
Chemistry has been fulfilling its commitment providing knowledge of Chemistry
and Chemical Technology to the undergraduate students of all Engineering
Disciplines.
4.
The Department has started the postgraduation course offering M.Phil degree.
5.
Today with highly qualified academic staffs and with sufficient lab facilities, the
department strives for academic excellence through creative learning and diverse
research in Chemistry and related fields.
