Attendance
Students must attend 90% of the
school days per semester in order
to obtain credit for completion of
coursework.
Students can have:
A limited number of absences per
semester
As many doctors, court, and
professional meeting notes as the
student obtains…However…
Attendance (continued)
Students are required to be in school
every day (TCA-49-6-3001) and after a
student misses 5 days UNEXCUSED they
are considered truant and may be
summoned to court for as few as 5
absences (TCA-49-6-3007). At 5 days the
school sends a letter, after 7 days the
CMCSS attendance office sends a
letter from the BOE and also meets
with the student
It's a Class C misdemeanor (educational
neglect)
each day a child is absent (unexcused)
could result in fines
Attendance (Continued)
The 9 days per semester deals
ONLY with promotion and
retention in our county (It is not
9 free days out of school)
if a student misses 9 days or
more per class per semester
they could expect to receive NC
for the class(es) (The grades do
not have a bearing here, the state
requires that kids be in school)
Attendance -Tardies
Tardies turn into absences if
a student is 10 or more
minutes late to any class
Students have been
summoned to court for
excessive tardies and/or
Absences
Attendance
Absences due to
extenuating
circumstances may be
reviewed by the
