SSA Industry Day: Information day of upcoming procurements within ESA's SSA programme for Period 3
16 March 2017 at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre, Darmstadt, Germany
In 2009, ESA launched the development of a system that will enable Europe to autonomously monitor the space environment and detect and mitigate hazards to the population and to infrastructure both in orbit and on ground. Through its Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme, ESA is networking existing assets and developing new ones that will allow the provision of timely and reliable information on the space weather phenomena, near‐Earth objects and space debris that threaten satellites in orbit as well as life and property on the ground. After the developments of Period 2 (2013‐2016) are about to be completed, ESA is initiating activities for the next step of the Programme implementation. In the Period 3 (2017‐2020) ESA is targeting developments enabling transition towards operational systems, while continuing to develop new capabilities and implementing more services in the now‐ and forecast domain to enhance the awareness of the space environment. European industry is hereby invited to hear about future activities currently planned for Period 3. Interested companies and institutions are welcome to attend the SSA Industry Day informing about the upcoming procurements and regulations of the SSA Programme.
Main technology domains for the building blocks of the SSA systems are: Ground segment, data systems, software, products and related IT infrastructure, mission analysis, services, space and ground segment developments / instrumentation and satellites. The concerned States participating in the SSA Programme to date are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom.
