Invitation: book presentation Delft Blue to Denim Blue – Thursday March 16
On Thursday March 16 the very first copies of the book Delft Blue to Denim Blue: Contemporary Dutch
Fashion will be presented. This book presents the results of a five-year research project by Radboud
University, ArtEZ, Saxion Hogescholen and University of Amsterdam, financed by the Netherlands
Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). The dynamics of identity in a constantly changing
globalised world is a central theme.
From retail to cybercouture
Delft Blue to Denim Blue explores the landscape of Dutch fashion in all its rich variety and complexity.
Luxuriously illustrated in colour, the book uncovers the cultural roots of Dutch fashion in a globalized
context. The authors debunk myths surrounding Dutch fashion, dig up new facts and stories, and
explore the creative relation of fashion design to cultural heritage. Written by experts in the field, Delft
Blue to Denim Blue gives a thorough overview of designers, ranging from G-Star jeans, and affordable
retailer C&A, to a savvy brand like Vanilia, and from the famous designer duo Viktor&Rolf to a futuristic
designer like Iris van Herpen. The book assesses the diversity of Dutch fashion designers, firms and
brands in their historical and cultural contexts.
Identity in a Changing World
The book Delft Blue to Denim Blue will be presented at the end of the Studium Generale programme
in the Auditorium of Rozet, Kortestraat 16 in Arnhem. The theme of Studium Generale on March 16,
‘Lost in Transition. Identity in a changing world’, is closely related to the central theme of the book on
the dynamics of Dutch fashion identity. You are welcome to join the workshops and lectures of

Book presentation
At 17.15h the editor of the book, Professor Anneke Smelik (Radboud University), will give a short
presentation. The first copies of the book will be offered to Nishant Shah (Dean Graduate School
ArtEZ) and Lucie Huiskens (research- and innovation network CLICKNL|NextFashion).

Uitnodiging: boekpresentatie Delft Blue to Denim Blue – donderdag 16 maart
Op donderdag 16 maart as. worden de eerste exemplaren van het boek ‘Delft Blue to Denim Blue:
Contemporary Dutch Fashion’ uitgereikt. Het boek is het sluitstuk van een vijfjarig onderzoeksproject
van de Radboud Universiteit, ArtEZ, Saxion Hogescholen en de Universiteit van Amsterdam,
gefinancierd door de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO). De
complexe dynamiek van identiteit in een continu veranderende, globaliserende wereld stond hierbij
centraal.
Van retail tot cybercouture
‘Delft Blue to Denim Blue’ verkent het landschap van de Nederlandse mode in al zijn verscheidenheid
en complexiteit. Aan bod komen individuele ontwerpers Jan Taminiau, Iris Van Herpen en het duo
Viktor & Rolf, en bekende merken als G-Star, Mexx, CoraKemperman, Vanilia, en retailer C & A. Ook
modefotografen zoals Inez Van Lamsweerde en Erwin Olaf worden onderzocht. Daarnaast is er
aandacht voor ‘draagbare technologie’, van ontwerpers als Pauline van Dongen en Bart Hess.
Identity in a Changing World
De eerste exemplaren van ‘Delft Blue to Denim Blue’ worden, aansluitend op het programma van
ArtEZ Studium Generale, uitgereikt in het Auditorium, Kortestraat 16 van Rozet in Arnhem. Het thema
van Studium Generale op 16 maart ‘Lost in Transition. Identity in a changing world’ sluit naadloos aan
bij het thema van het boek over de Nederlandse mode-identiteit. U bent van harte welkom om deel te
nemen aan de workshops en lezingen die in het kader van Studium Generale worden

Boekpresentatie
Om 17.15 verzorgt de redacteur van het boek, prof.dr. Anneke Smelik (Radboud Universiteit) een
korte presentatie. Aansluitend reikt zij de eerste exemplaren uit aan Nishant Shah (dean Graduate
School, verantwoordelijk voor onderzoek binnen ArtEZ) en Lucie Huiskens (onderzoeks- en
innovatienetwerk CLICKNL|NextFashion).
U bent van harte uitgenodigd aanwezig te zijn bij de boekpresentatie en de uitreiking van de eerste
