WORLD DAY OF THE SICK - FEBRUARY 11: The ministry of Jesus to the sick is central to the life
of the Church. February 11 (Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes) highlights the healing ministry of the
Church. It reminds us that service to the sick and suffering cannot be neglected. It recognizes the
great efforts of doctors, nurses, health care institutions and pastoral care givers to restore health to
those afflicted with illness and disease. On that day, there will be two Masses: 12:10pm and 7pm.
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will be administered at both Masses. Please contact the
parish office if you are planning to attend. All are encouraged to go for confession before receiving
the sacrament.
DIOCESAN PASTORAL CARE TRAINING: SESSION 1 "THE HEALING MINISTRY OF CHRIST" will
take place on February 11 (The World Day of the Sick) at St Patrick's, Our Lady of Lourdes Hall,
9am-3pm. Fr William Hann will be the morning presenter. Please bring a bag lunch, coffee and tea
provided. Contact the parish office to register @ 250-592-7391, email: [email protected] or sign
up sheets located at church entrances.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS VALENTINE PANCAKE BREAKFAST SAINT PATRICK´S CHURCH:
Sunday, February 12th, 8:30am - 12:00pm. Join the Knights of Columbus in Our Lady of Lourdes
Hall for this family event. $20 per family or $5 per person. Please invite your friends and relatives.
CWL VALENTINE HIGH TEA All the ladies of the St. Patrick`s, St. Andrew`s, and Holy Cross
Parishes are invited to: “PLEASE COME OUR WAY, THIS VALENTINE DAY”. Wednesday, February
15 after the 12:10pm Mass. High Tea will be served from 1:00 - 3:00pm. Prizes awarded to: "Ladies

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE SHARE LENT WORKSHOPS: This year we are holding 3 Share Lent
workshops, one in each area of the Diocese. The Victoria area Share Lent workshop will be held on
Tuesday Feb. 7, 6:30 - 9:00 at St. Patrick's Parish Centre, in the St. Gabriel Room, on the 2nd floor.
Our Development and Peace animator, Jeremy Laurie, will facilitate the workshop and light
refreshments will be available. All D&P parish reps are encouraged to attend, but it is open to
anyone interested in Development and Peace and learning more about our Share Lent campaign.

VOCATION LIVE-IN: On the weekend of February 17 - 19, there will be a Vocation Live-In for boys
or young men interested in the priesthood or the consecrated life, at the Seminary of Christ the

BURSARIES NOTICE FROM CWL: The Bursaries offered through the CWL are for any Catholic
youth graduating in June/17 from either public high school, St. Andrew’s Regional High School, or
homeschooled: -Freda Smith: $500 -Molly Boucher: $500 -Catholic Health Association: 2 x $250.
Information can be found on the CWL bulletin board. Deadlines and criteria for applying vary.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT DOWNTOWN FOODBANK: The Society of St Vincent de Paul is
looking for help at View St location. COMMITMENT: Once a week or on call for 3 hours - Monday
to Friday usually in the morning. DUTIES: Sorting, bagging food items, serving the public.
REQUIREMENTS: Standing, lifting, smiling, following instructions. PROCESS: Interview, application,

ROCKING GOOD FUN-RAISER: Dinner and Dance in support of St. Joseph Parent Advisory Group
and SJTW Masithuthukisane Project. Will be held on Friday, February 10th at 7:00pm in St. Joseph
the Worker Parish Hall. Dinner prepared by our very own amazing “Chef Fr. Alfredo” followed by

BELOVED DISCIPLES: Spirituality for the “Autumn of Life”. A five episode DVD mini- course for the
over 60’s. Starting Tuesday, February 21st from 7-8:30pm at Holy Cross Parish. Come and be

AWARDING OF DIOCESAN MEDALS: On the occasion of the Cathedral’s 125th Anniversary year,
the Diocese would like to honour various individuals from throughout the diocese for service to the
local and / or diocesan church, the community and the world. Therefore, parishioners are invited to
submit suggestions of recipients for such awards to their local parish community’s Nominating
Committee no later than Thursday, March 30, 2017. Suggestions should be accompanied by a
personal bio of the nominee, indicating family, circumstances of origin and of connections to
mission/ church/community as well as specific examples of the nominee’s personification of the
mission of Christ – in the church community, in the civic community, and in the world. There should
also be one clear and concise reason why the nominator is advancing the name of the nominee.
Award recipients must be 19 years of age or older, practicing Catholics who have rendered long
standing service to the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Victoria, lay members of the faithful, and
not on salary or having a contract position with a local parish or the diocese.
Fr. Alfredo’s" 50TH Birthday Celebration Potluck" Saint Joseph- The parish is invited to join in a
birthday celebration Potluck Dinner (hosted by St. Joseph’s Conference The Society of St. Vincent
de Paul) in honor of Father Alfredo's 50TH Birthday to be held on FRIDAY February 24th from 6:30
pm to 8:30 pm.

The Knights of Columbus (BC) Charity Foundation is offering 30 bursaries valued at $500 each to
post-secondary Catholic students. Students must be enrolling in the second or subsequent year of
higher learning in BC. The deadline for applications is June 30th. General information and Terms of

Father David is presenting a teaching on the early beginnings of the Catholic Church, 2nd and
4thThursday in February and March. Last years teaching on the Psalms was good and fun had by all
with lots of interrelation with people.

Fatima hall on May 6, 2017. We sold out last year, so be sure to mark your calendar, and

Wednesdays
St. Patrick’s, Victoria: St. Patrick’s Parish invites moms or dads at home with children
under age 5 to join our Parents and Tots group from 9:30 – 11 AM. Parents meet in the
parish library for friendship, fellowship, faith sharing, or just chatting about the challenges
of parenting. Children are cared for in Our Lady of Lourdes Hall under the watchful
guidance of volunteer grandmas. If you are interested, or know someone who would be

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Victoria: Traditional Latin Mass, 9 AM.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish: 3 – 4:30 PM, Jesus Youth at SJTW Parish invites youth in
high school to come out to the Jesus Youth Prayer meeting! Jesus Youth is an international
Catholic youth movement with a charismatic spirituality. For more information contact:

At the Cathedral: 4th Saturday of each month the 9:30 AM Mass is offered for the
sanctity of human life and for the intentions of those who support Respect Life Ministry.
All are welcome to participate.
Our Lady of Fatima, Victoria: Victoria Chinese Catholic Community (VCCC) regular
meetings with faith sharing, prayers, potluck, Mass or special presentations by expert
speakers, 3:30 PM. Please note meeting dates may not fall on first Saturdays of the month;
please contact Ben for more information. Meetings will conclude with a potluck supper.

Catholic Underground at St. Patrick’s Parish: Catholic Underground is an initiative which
engages youth in both their culture and their faith, held in the basement at St. Patrick’s at

St. Joseph the Worker, Victoria: Holy Families group gathers on the first Sunday of the
month for a potluck lunch and discussion from 1 – 5:30 PM. Please note: on January 1,

RETREATS
- January 2018 Eastern Caribbean stay and cruise. Mary Hof, parishioner of St. Edwards
Parish, is putting together another cruise for those who would like to travel as part of a
group. It’s a way of making new friendships, and for some not having to travel alone.
Rooms must be secured now. The trip will be 11 days, 4 nights in Puerto Rico and then a 7
day cruise from Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale, on Celebrity Summit. For more
