Overall ability: in terms of the Common European Framework, students should
have abilities typical of a high A2.
As a more specific indication, students should have an excellent command of the

Grammar: students are recommended to pay particular attention to:
 Tenses (Present Simple & Continuous, Past Simple & Continuous,
Present Perfect Simple & Continuous, Past Perfect Simple, Future
Simple, Going To Future, Present Continuous with Future
meaning)
 Conditional sentences (types zero, 1st and 2nd)
 Relative Pronouns and Relative Clauses
 Possessive Pronouns
 Reported Speech (statements)
 Wishes
 Definite and Indefinite Articles
 Comparison (comparative / superlative adjectives and adverbs)
Reading Comprehension: students should be able to read a short text and answer
both factual and critical thinking question based on it.
Writing: ability to write a short passage – for example, a paragraph or letter.
Oral fluency: students of Athens College and Psychico College Elementary Schools
are expected to have a high degree of oral ability in English. Although speaking is not
part of the test for the outside entrants, both parents and students should be aware of
the importance the school gives to speaking skills. English is the medium of
instruction in English classes.
