“A Prayer for my Father”
A poem by Gary Gildner
Presentation by Meg Glawe
Why I liked the Poem.
•
The poem Prayer for my
Father caught me emotionally.
Not because of how it affected
me personally but because it
effected some one dear to me.
My Own Father
•
When my dad was only
seventeen he lost his own father
in a farming accident. My dad
was really close to his father and
still finds it difficult to talk about
his own father.
The Image as I read the Poem
•
As I read the poem I could picture
the relationship between my dad
and my grandfather. They would
always do things like hunt and fish.
They were practically inseparable.
How the speaker must feel.
•
The speaker must really miss his father and
makes him reflect on their memories. He
promises to never forget his father and he
hopes the memories live on in his father’s
spirit. He doesn’t see his father gone forever
just as in a different place, a better place.
Why the Poem is Great
•
The poem is really great because
you can feel the speakers emotions.
He is also very descriptive when he
explains how important it is that their
memories live on in his father after he
has passed away.
What I would change
•
He should have been more clear as
to what he met by the blur of a child’s
hand that fluttered into view. I am not
sure if the speaker is referring to
himself or his father’s youth.
