PROCESS
BOARD POLICY 3516
The Superintendent or designee shall develop and
maintain a disaster preparedness plan which details
provisions for handling emergencies and disasters and
which shall be included in the district's comprehensive
school safety plan. (Education Code 32282)
NATIONAL INCIDENT
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND
STANDARDIZED EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
All state agencies are required to use NIMS. In addition
to this, California requires its local government entities
to also use SEMS, in order to be eligible for any
reimbursement of response-related costs under the state
and federal disaster assistance programs.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS
Section 3100 of the California Government Code states that public
employees are disaster service workers (DSWs) who are subject
to the disaster service activities assigned to them by their
superiors or by law. Section 3100 of the California Government
Code applies to public school employees for cases in which:
1. A local emergency has been proclaimed,
2. A State of Emergency has been proclaimed, or
3. A Federal disaster declaration has been made.
