• Derived from ectoderm (neuroepithelium) except
the microglia which are derived from blood cellmonocyte
• They:
 Provide support, protection and nutrition for
neurons
 Maintain homeostasis
 Form myelin
• Form gap junctions with other neuroglia cells

 Ependymal cells
 Schwann cells
 Stellate cells
