Circuit:
Exhalation
Inhalation
 The exhalation air is enriched
with oxygen
 CO2 and H2O are absorbed

KO2 - function and reaction:
2KO2 + CO2 + H2O >> [K2CO3*H2O] + 1.5 O2 + E
(Potassium Hyperoxide)
(Potassium Carbonate)
(Heat)
 KO2 is a very reactive, extremely stable chemical, reacting
with the humidity and the CO2 of the exhalation air, releasing
O2 and heat (exothermic reaction)
 KO2 oxidises reliably all foreign substances
 ... and the breathing air is very dry!
 MSA EUROPE 2005
AirElite 4h
KO2 - reaction:
2KO2 + CO2 + H2O >> [K2CO3*H2O] + 1.5 O2 + E:
 Increased exhalation = more CO2 + more H2O raise the
oxygen generation! Or vice versa, less consumption
reduces the O2-generation.
 At any time, more O2 is generated than used!

Flexible Service
Time:
Sudden changes to high
performance are compensated by the oxygen
surplus!
720
600
480
Time (minutes)
The service time depends
on the respiration performance. High performance
(heavy work) increases the
oxygen generation, low
performance (light work)
extends the service time!

The breathing air regeneration
Advantage:
O2-generation / CO2-absorption are effected
exclusively by KO2:
 in one stage, compressed oxygen and CO2 absorbers
(soda lime), that must match each other, are not needed.
 MSA EUROPE 2005
AirElite 4h
KO2 - B. A. do not need:
 oxygen cylinders
 oxygen pumps
 deep freezers for ice production
 MSA EUROPE 2005
AirElite 4h
KO2 offers:
 optimal O2-surplus
there is no compressed-O2-reserve, which may cause
a CO2-intoxication if the soda lime cartridge is
exhausted prematurely [CO2 -enrichment in the
closed circuit]
 a CO2 intoxication is impossible!
 MSA EUROPE 2005
AirElite 4h
KO2 is:
 totally breath controlled
(no valves and pressure reducers that need
maintenance)
 simple in construction, has very safe function, and
is very quickly ready for use.
 almost maintenance free
 long storable

What is happening in the KO2canisters?
 CO2-absorption
 water absorption
 O2-generation
 chemical transformation of KO2
 generation of heat
air cooled heat exchangers +
maintenance free water cooling
