miShare
By: Brian Perry and Lisa Hill
miWhat?
• miShare is a smart little
gadget for sharing files and
playlists between iPods. No
computer or cable is needed,
and it's super easy to use. Just
attach the source and target
iPods and press miShare's big
button to start the transfer.
mi say what?
• “If a friend’s digital music collection leaves you
with playlist envy, instant gratification is one step
closer. MiShare lets music connoisseurs swap
files between iPods on the fly.”
» Jan 17 2008 NY Times
• “The age of the media gadget is here, with Apple
steamrolling the big distributors. But when
consumers have the power to get content
anywhere, anytime, for free, even Steve Jobs
should be worried.”
» Dec 2007 Vanity Fair “Ipod, Iphone, Iconquered”

•
•
•
•
It is legal to share songs that you own a copyright to.
Promotes and enhances illegal file sharing
Almost impossible to enforce restrictions
Not worth copyright owners time to go after small file
sharing
• Promotes illegal sharing of programs to avoid itunes.
• Does not violate Digital Millennium Copyright Act
mi oh mi, what about Apple?
• No longer have
monopoly on Ipod

• Apple will need to step
up file sharing to
compete
• Needs to be ready for
competitors
