Delivery of academic and elective coursework
will be organized on the common “4x4 block”
scheduling model, in which students take
four full-year, 1-credit courses each
semester in expanded 90-minute class
periods.
This model offers students the opportunity to
earn four course credits each semester, 8
course credits each year during regularlyscheduled classes.


Four additional elective course credits are
available if the student completes eight
semesters of high school and does not opt
for early graduation. Additional credit
opportunities may exist.
The total number of course credits taken
while in high school must still total at least
28.

Until we are approved to offer the IB
curriculum, FLA HS will offer traditional
Advanced Placement courses to those
students who seek advanced courses of study
and who qualify.

The IB Diploma is universally recognized as
the single most effective college preparation
program in the world, and successful
completion of the entire diploma program
and awarding of an IB Diploma is likewise
recognized as the single most accurate
predictor of college success in the United
States.


The IB Diploma Program is a two-year
program designed to be taken in the
student’s junior and senior years in high
school.
The program is so far advanced that no NC
high school student can reasonably hope to
achieve success without first going through a
“pre-IB” program designed to prepare the
student for the rigors of IB coursework.
