Alcohol Truths and Myths

ACTIVITY
Scene 1: Truths and Myths About Alcohol
Question 1
Which statement is true?
1. When we say, “All drinks are not the same,” what we mean is that some
hard liquor cocktails are made with much better booze than others.
2. When we say, “All drinks are not the same,” what we mean is that
drinking one 12-ounce premium beer has a vastly different impact on
your impairment than drinking one three ounce vodka martini or other
hard liquor cocktail.
Statement two is correct. Choose Wisely. Plan Ahead.
Question 2
True or False: It is OK to drink for the purpose of getting drunk, as long as
it’s only done once in a while and for on the of the following reasons:
“letting off steam,” “decompressing,” or “totally cutting loose.”
1. True
2. False
False. When we drink in excess, or encourage others to do the same,
we’re not consuming alcohol responsibly.
Activity: Know Your Drink
How much you drink depends on what you drink.
How many 12 oz. premium light beers (4.2% ABV) are
in each typical drink? Let’s find out.
?
?
Less than half the volume, same amount of alcohol.
That’s two beers. Easy on the vino, capiche?
?
How suave. Mr. Secret Agent. Good for super villains and those who can
sip slowly. But be careful, that’s nearly four beers you’re consuming.
?
Watch how many of these you consume as one margarita contains
around three beers. You don’t want to spoil the fiesta!
Little glass, BIG impact. A shot of 40% ABV hard liquor has more alcohol
than one premium light beer at 4.2% ABV. Are shots EVER a good idea?
Activity: Know Your Drink
Remember that all drinks are not the same.
According to the U.S. federal government, it can be difficult to
estimate the number of standard drinks in a single mixed drink
made with hard liquor.
Depending on factors such as the type of spirits and the recipe, a
mixed drink can contain from one to three or more standard drinks.

The consequences of a DUI are severe. Aside from the criminal
offense, a DUI is financially costly, as well. The illegal BAC limit to drive
in every state is .08 but you should perform a simple Google search of
your state’s DUI laws and regulations to fully understand all the
implications of a drunk driving arrest.
Do not drink excessively because of a stressful day.
Pace yourself. Nobody should be slamming beers.
Plan ahead for safe transportation - knowing ahead of time where you
need to go will help decide the best method. Make sure to have a cab
number, such as 1-800-TAXI-CAB, or bus fare, for example.

Planning ahead for safe alternative transportation is your best bet.
Program the number for a taxi company into your phone. An easy way
to arrange a safe cab ride home is to call 1800TAXICAB, a long-time
partner of MillerCoors. And, make it even easier by using the Miller
Lite Taxi Finder app, which is powered by 1800TAXICAB.
Take turns being designated driver amongst your friends.
Look into the public transportation options available in your area.
Remember that only time can sober you up.
Before you decide to drive home, try to assess your own impairment,
or maybe ask a co-worker if you seem OK to drive. Make a reasonable
effort to size up your situation before making a decision.

Try not to mix drinks. Drinking beverages other than beer can lead to
higher impairment levels more quickly than sticking to beer due to
higher levels of alcohol.
Your body can process one 12 oz. beer an hour. Remember, that
means there could be two 12 ounce beers in that 24 ounce cup.
Don’t be afraid to sit out when your friend grabs the next round,
especially if you haven’t finished your drink yet.
Don’t be pressured into drinking shots. Your body will thank you later.
Thank you, Beer Ambassadors!
Having completed this journey, you now possess the skills to control your
level of impairment while drinking and understand that not all alcohol is the
same. As a Beer Ambassador to MillerCoors, we hope you bring awareness
to those around you about the perils of overconsumption and positively
represent MillerCoors while enjoying our beers responsibly.
