Danube Region Scientific support to the Danube Strategy

Launched by the JRC in 2011 In close collaboration with key scientific partners

countries: of the Danube • Science Academies (LoI with 11 partner Academies) • Universities (LoI with Danube Rectors' Conference representing almost 70 universities of the region)

Danube Region Objectives

1. Addressing the scientific needs related to the implementation of the EUSDR

• JRC, as the EC's in-house science service, has strong expertise on the Danube Region (EFAS, Danube Soil Information System, water quality monitoring, etc.) • Promoting a cross-cutting approach • Addressing the interdependencies between different EUSDR Priority Areas and helping to avoid duplication of efforts

Danube Region Objectives

2. Strengthening scientific cooperation in the Danube Region

• Implementation in close cooperation which key scientific actors of the Danube Region • Facilitating exchange of knowledge between countries with different performance level in R&D • Stimulating scientific excellence to improve scientific performance and thereby innovation capacity and competitiveness
