History of AP at Pinelands
 The Advanced Placement Program began in the school year 19901991.
 At that time, there was only one class running, and it took 15
years to build up the program to include 10 AP classes.
 Only the top students were selected to take the AP classes, and
very few took the exam and passed it at the end of the year.
 We have slowly opened up the accessibility to the AP classes so
that any student interested in taking this type of class can be
admitted into the program.
 We have also encouraged all students to take the exams.

by students who are economically disadvantaged.

Next steps…
 After receiving the AP Examination Scores in July, we
will reassess the program, as well as the individual class’
success.
 I will be meeting with Volunteer AP teachers to have an
informal Brainstorming Brunch where we will Celebrate
our Success and Plan for the upcoming year.
 After this meeting I will bring any building level
concerns, such as the change in schedule, to the
Principal.
 I will also meet with the Superintendent to request policy
changes if needed.
A SHARED VISION…
I believe that all students in the general population can
succeed in an Advanced Placement class in High School
with the proper tools:
 A passionate teacher who is willing to go above and
beyond the normal duties of a classroom. One who is an
expert in his/her content area, but also has a passion for
instilling the love of learning on their students.
 The resources needed to give students the proper tools
(texts, technology, facilities) in order to learn their topic

FINAL THOUGHTS
Being the Pinelands Regional AP Coordinator has been one
of the most rewarding professional experiences I have had
thus far. From the moment I recruit these students into the
program, until graduation day, they are my students.
They know that they can come to me with ideas and
concerns and I will listen and try to find a solution.
Building a relationship with these students has made me a
better supervisor, and has help me to focus all of my
energies in the direction of producing life-long learners.
