THE MAIDU HOMES
Have you learned about
the Maidu homes? The Maidu are a
California Native American Tribe.
They live in the Sierra Nevada
Mountains. The Maidu live in
Valleys, forests, meadows, rivers,
and lakes. They live in the higher
hills in the mountains. It was not
too hot and not too cold. The
temperature was mild.
THE MAIDU FOOD
Do you now what the Maidu
ate? The Maidu hunted using bows
,arrows spears, and knives'. The Maidu
caught fish with hooks and they
carved from bones. They used long
sticks to knock hazel nuts, buckeyes,
and acorns off trees. They use nets and
baskets to trap fish. They also ate
pronghorn ,deer, elk, squirrels, rabbits
ducks geese ,and quail.
THE MAIDU JOBS
Do you know about the
Maidu jobs? Men made tools such
as axes, made fishing nets and
fishing traps. Maidu women
gathering food and cooked meal
and made clothing, wave baskets
and cared for children.
THE MAIDU CLOTHING
Do you know what did the
Maidu wore? The women wore
baskets , hats with geometric
designs. They also wore feather
belts and head bands. If they cut
their hair, they used hot coals.
They wore bone, shell, feather, and
wood jewelry. The Maidu wore few
pieces of clothing.
THE MAIDU CELEBRATION
Did you know what did
the Maidu celebrations were?
When family member died, the
Maidu burned all the persons
possessions to help them feel
better. The Maidu special
ceremonies to honor animals such
as the grizzly bear and rattle
snakes.
INTERESTING FACTS
Do you know what was
the Maidu interesting facts is? The
Maidu painted their bodies with
paint they made from white or red
clay, red stone, or charcoal. Besides
they tattooed their bodies by using
sharp fish or bird bone to make
designs in their lines. Maidu also did
not name their babies until they
where two or three years old.
