PAS….

The Second Observation Cycle

• • • Learning Targets: Administrators will be able to: Understand and Articulate the remaining two Observation Cycles for both Probationary and High Cycle teachers Facilitate a mid-year discussion about Student Achievement Goals Use AHEP to complete PAS requirements

Wrapping up Tri 1 - tasks

Task 1 - Make sure that all teachers have SAGs entered Task 2 -Complete Observation 1 forms (Form Ds) for all Probationary and High Cycle teachers Task 3 - Perform a repeat of Observation 1 for teachers who don’t meet the Q-Comp Compensation Standard

Wrapping up the Instructional Observation:

Task 1 – SAG Entry

(Green Handout)

   ALL GOALS NEED TO BE ENTERED AND ACCEPTED BY DECEMBER 12 OR THE TEACHER WILL FORFEIT THE $210 SAG INCENTIVE! (And they will still have to do the goal…employee performance issue!) On Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, please follow up with any HC or probationary teacher who has not submitted a SAG. Document that you have given them the following reminder: “Your Student Achievement Goal was due in AHEP on November 25 th . Failure to submit a goal before December 12 th will result in forfeiting the $210.00 SAG incentive.” On Dec. 15 th , submit the names of any teachers who did not submit a goal in AHEP to Jan Winters.

Wrapping up the Instructional Observation:

Task 2 – Complete Form Ds

 Complete any Form Ds that haven’t been completed ASAP  AHEP now has the appropriate criteria for continuing contract, P1, P2, and P3 teachers listed on Form D.

Wrapping up the Instructional Observation:

Task 3 – Repeat Observations if Necessary

If a teacher doesn’t meet the initial standard to advance to the second observation, you have two options:  Add evidence from the second observation below the evidence collected from the first observation. Change the “no” to “yes.”  Call Rena Hammes in Employee Services, and she will reset the data from observation one. This “wipes out” the first observation and allows the teacher and administrator to start over.

Tri 2 - 3 Responsibilities

1.

Student Achievement Goals: Follow up with teachers to determine how they are monitoring student progress. (Rubric handout)

2.

2 Observations for all Probationary Teachers (March 15 th deadline) and selected High Cycle teachers (April 15 th deadline).

3.

Continue to collect evidence on Domain 1: Planning and Preparation and Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities

Student Achievement Goal

 Teachers may have met their goal at the end of the first trimester. (Sign off, not score.)  Teachers may write a second goal if they did not meet the first.

 AHEP Tasks: If teachers want to write a second goal, they will need to contact Jan Winters via e-mail with their new goal. *Exceptions may be made for teachers on Leaves of Absences. Deadline for these teachers will be 30 calendar days after the teacher returns from Leave of Absence.

Targeted Area of Growth Cycle

(pink handouts Forms E – F - G)     This observation replaces the Peer of Choice option for probationary and selected High Cycle teachers.

It may be done before or after the Classroom Environment Observation Cycle.

It is an opportunity to work with the teacher on a special area of focus, determined either by the teacher, or directed by the administrator. (Example: ENVoY, questioning strategies, etc.) Data may be collected to help you complete the summative in other domains. (See handouts)

Observation 2

Targeted Area of Growth Cycle

Frequently Asked Questions about the Remaining Observation Cycles…

What has changed in AHEP?

What do the remaining observation cycles look like if I determine a HC teacher needs an administrative observation in place of the Peer of Choice?

 The administrator has the right to designate another administrator or an administrative intern under his/her supervision to complete the second observation IN PLACE of the Peer of Choice.  The administrator will conduct a Targeted Area of Growth Observation Cycle in place of the Peer of Choice.

 The teacher can still complete a Peer of Choice observation if desired. This will be considered an optional 4 th observation.

What about Administrative Interns?

What needs to be entered into AHEP for non-classroom/traditional teachers?

    This year is a work in progress for non-classroom teachers.

Complete all observation forms in AHEP.

If specialized rubrics aren’t available (example: TOSAs), on Form K – then use instructional rubrics and interpret based on the role of the individual. At the end of the year, we will make a decision from three possible options:  Use instructional rubrics and apply to the position.

 Create position specific rubrics for the 2015-16 school year.

 Use old PAS rubrics.

What about newly hired teachers and those under .4 FTE?

 Under .4 FTE: Don’t qualify for Q Comp, but they still have to be observed…  Complete the entire observation process (3 observations cycles) for all full-year teachers.

 Teachers hired after the start of the school year: One observation cycle per trimester.
