Chinatown, Chicago
Travel Brochure

Introduction
On May 30th we will be taking a bus to Chinatown, Chicago. The Chinatown
neighborhood in Chicago, IL, is on the South Side (located in the Armour
Square community area). Centered on Cermak and Wentworth Avenues, it
becomes an example of an American Chinatown, or ethnic-Chinese
neighborhood. It is not to be confused with an area sometimes called
"New Chinatown", which is on the North Side around Argyle Street, and
which attracts a larger number of people of Southeast Asian heritage.
Chicago's Chinatown emerged largely because the clusters of Chinese
immigrants who had settled on the West Coast of the United States were
being treated inhumanely, hence their decision to head east to find a
more peaceful place to live. Throughout Chinatown there are many places
to eat and see.

Welcome to Chinatown, Chicago Illinois!
Places to See
Located at 60616 Chicago IL, the Ping Tom Memorial Park is a park in
Chicago's Chinatown named after one of its most important community
members.
I recommend this breathtaking site to see because Ping Tom was a
businessman who invested heavily in the formation and expansion of
Chicago's Chinatown. Without him there would be no Chicago Chinatown.
Places to See
Another place to see when visiting Chinatown is the Nine Dragon Wall,
which is located at Cermak Rd., Chinatown Chicago IL, 60616.
I recommend this place because it's one of the only three such replicas
outside of China, and it's modeled after the beautiful wall in BeiHai
(North Sea) Park in Beijing. A place of utter perfection, this Chinatown
art piece replicates the large dragons and over 500 smaller dragons
painted in red, gold and blue signifying the Chinese focus on good
fortune.
Places to See
The Pui Tak Center Building, located 2216 S Wentworth Ave Chicago, IL
60616, is yet another stunning place to see.The Pui Tak Center won a
$100,00 grant in November 2007 by gaining the most votes over 25
other historic sites throughout Chicagoland. With it's gorgeous green
and red pagoda towers topped with walls of terra cotta flowers and
mother lions. I recommend this building because it truly represents the
majestic traditions of China.
Places to See
Another breathtaking place to see is the Chinese American Museum of
Chicago. Located 238 W 23rd St Chicago, IL 60616, this place is the
only museum dedicated to the cultural heritage of Chinese Americans in
the Midwest. I recommend this place because it's packed with so much
knowledge and you can see a piece of Chinese beauty within these walls.
