Now though Sri lankas full name is the democratic socialist of Sri Lanka .
The national anthem of sri lanka is the Sri Lanka Matha .
The capital city of sri lanka is jayawardenapura kotte .
The official languages of sri lanka are sinhala and tamil
The people of sri lanka are called sri lankans .
Sri lanka is also known as the teardrop of the Indian ocean and its also known
as the pearl of the Indian ocean and it is known as the nation of smiling people
as well .
Sri lanka produced tea , coffee , rubber , coconuts , cinnamon and gemstones .

Years ago people in sri lanka didn’t wear anYthing but
nowadays they do .
Women who are near the age of marrying or who are married
wear a sari .
Little girls wear a puvadai sattai which is a skirt with a
beautiful design and a blouse .
Some men wear a sarong and a shirt . Other men wear a patta
vetty .
Boys wear long shorts a shirt and a hat .
people in sri lanka don’t wear shoes .

Usually it is sunny but sometimes it does rain .
Like when it does rain the streets in sri lanka
can be flooded within a few minutes .
The national sport of sri lanka is volleyball
Even though not many people play it .
The most popular sport is basketball ,
basketball was first introduced to sri lanka
in 1917 .
Other popular sports are football , water
sports , athletics , cricket and baseball .
Sri lanka is a home to great learning .
In primary and secondary school you only have to stay
in for six years .
The government give all the students free books and
uniforms at the start of the year .
In the schools they speak English , sinhala and Tamil .
Music in sri lanka is very popular .
The drums especially are super popular .
There are three different types of drums their
names are the yak bera , the dawula and the
udekki .
The yak bera and the dawula look very similar but
sound very different .
Western and rock music are very popular so is
poetry .
Drums are used to accompany poetry dances .
in sri lanka some people ride on buses and people also
sell things on buses .
The most popular form of transport is a motorcycle .
Cars aren't used much in sri lanka some people just go in
taxis .
Walking is also a very popular form of transport and
so is going by train .
And bike rides are very popular and there is lots of bike
tours every day .
Over one million people in sri lanka work picking tea
leaves .
You have to be over twelve to work .
The younger people just follow their mums and
grandmothers while picking tea leaves .
The women are the ones who mostly pick tea leaves and
they are also expected to do all the household chores .
Some men work picking tea leaves others work getting
the money for there family .
