Historical Context • The concept introduced in 1980’s in US The National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC had a committee dealing with "electronically-enhanced" buildings: energy efficiency, life safety systems, telecommunications, workplace automation.

Further integration of all aforementioned systems considered to be a dream.

• 1985 – extensive media publications Focus on the communications and various technological innovations … The so called intelligent buildings prove to be more efficient and easy to lease… A developer gives definition for an intelligent building:
