• Learn to Input your Coordinates through the ICP and DED.
• Learn how to Execute a Pop-up Attack using VIP OA VRP cues.
The Basic Concept

While the normal waypoints allow for general
mission navigation, VIP OA and VRP are
additional points of reference that can be set
around a stationary target waypoint for improved
situational awareness.
Their positions are defined during mission
planning (briefing) using the mission map and
recon window.
By looking at the map around the stationary target
we can evaluate the best way to attack the target
and the best way of escape with regards to any
threats.
For this lesson, we will target the control tower at
Koksan airbase.There will be no threats. At
approximately 5 miles to target we will check left
to the VIP.

Terms and Purpose
• Terms
• VIP (Visual Initial Point) is the point of pop-up. After a low-level ingress,
this is where we pull up to gain altitude before rolling and pulling into the
target.
• OA (Offset Aimpoint) is a visual reference used to line you up on your
target heading.
• VRP (Visual Reference Point) is used for a successful escape after the
attack.
• VIP OA VRP each have 3 coordinates, Distance, Elevation and Bearing relative
from the target waypoint.
• Purpose
• To fine tune your attack run heading in Air-to-Ground missions for minimal
exposure to threats.

After determining your basic ingress and
egress from the mission map, do a recon of the
target and note all threats.
Choose your target (control tower) from the
target list and rotate the recon window to view
your desired VIP to target picture. (110* in
this case)
Zoom out to acquire your desired slant range
with regards to any threats. (8000 ft in this
case)
Now, determine your elevation / altitude to
pop-up with regards to any threats. (2500 ft in
this case) Tilt the recon window to simulate
this elevation.
The view in the recon window should now
reflect the pilots view at the VIP. He is
looking right, 2 o'clock at the target.

As in the recon window, this picture represents an
outside view of your aircraft flying through the
VIP.
We had bearing 110* in our recon window to get
the VIP to target picture. Well, it is the reciprocal
of that bearing (290*) we use to impute into the
jet as our VIP bearing. This is because all VIP OA
VRP bearing coordinates are taken from the
targets point of view.
Remember, the bearing 110* in the recon window
reflects our aircraft to the target. The bearings
we need to input reflect the target to us!
At this point the pilot rolls right and pulls into
target. Now considering his turn radius, he should
have an actual ingress bearing more like 300*.
For the training TE your VIP coordinates are
Bearing 290*, Range 8000 ft, Elevation 2500 ft.

After rolling right onto target we will look for the
OA (offset Aimpoint) to help us line up on target.
Position the OA behind the target using the from
target Bearing120*. This bearing is the reciprocal of
our actual 300* ingress bearing.
The OA Range in this picture is 6000 ft. It can be
adjusted to suit your situation or preference.
The OA Elevation will be 0 ft. It is the default
setting.
(Optional) A second OA2 can be positioned for
added references.
For the training TE your OA1 coordinates are
Bearing 120* , Range 6,000 ft, Elevation 0 ft.

After releasing your bombs we will check left to
the VRP for our escape.
Choose you VRP Bearing for a safe egress with
regards to any threats. (070* in this case).
The VRP Range in this picture is 14,000 ft and
can be adjusted to your situation or preference.
Set the VRP Elevation with regards to any
threats.(1000 ft in this case).
After flying through the VRP cue, continue to
next waypoint or as briefed.
For the training TE your VRP coordinates are
Bearing 070*, Range 14,000 ft, Elevation 1000 ft.

Now you have your Coordinates.

Normally you would enter your VIP OA VRP coordinates during a RAMP start to
accommodate the time needed as well as add realilizum to your flight.
Always select your attack waypoint before entering coordinates.
Use the ICP panel to impute all your coordinates and read them in the DED.
After imputing a correct coordinate, Press ENTR to accept, moving the scratchpad asterisks
down for the next entry.
If necessary, move the DCS switch up/down to reposition the scratchpad.
If you make a mistake imputing a coordinate, Press RCL to delete your last entry. Press it
twice to delete entire entry.
If you impute coordinates into the wrong waypoint, select the correct one and retype all.
Note the slant range is different than range to target. Slant range includes your altitude.
When using a Pop-up 500 ft attack profile, altitude is eliminated and both are almost
identical.
VIP OA VRP cues can only be seen through the Hud when the target waypoint is selected.
You can deconflict your multiplayer attack runs on stationary ground target, using
individual VIP OA VRP coordinates.
Impute VIP Coordinates.
• VIP
– On the ICP panel press LIST for the DED list page.
– Then select 3 for the VIP-TO -TARGET page.
– Using the ICP panel, impute the bearing 290*. To do
this press 2 9 0 0 to place the decimal. It should look
like 290.0 in the DED. Then press ENTR . Asterisks
should move down.
– Impute the range 8000 ft then press ENTR . Asterisks
should move down.
– Impute your Elevation 2500 ft and press ENTR .
Impute OA Coordinates.

On the ICP panel press LIST for the DED list page.
Then select 1 to get to the DEST DR page.
Then press SEQ to select the OA1 page.
Using the ICP panel, impute the range 6000 ft then
press ENTR. Asterisks should move down.
– Impute the bearing 120*. To do this press 1 2 0 0 to
place the decimal. It should look like 120.0 in the
DED. Then press ENTR. Asterisks should move
down.
– You do not have to impute your Elevation of 0 ft
because it is the default.
– (Optional) Press SEQ again to select OA2 and
impute its coordinates.
Impute VRP Coordinates.

– On the ICP panel press LIST for the DED list page.
– Then select 9 for the TARGET-TO-VRP page..
– Using the ICP panel, impute the bearing 070*. To do
this press 0 7 0 0 to place the decimal. It should look
like 70.0 in the DED. Then press ENTR. Asterisks
should move down.
– Impute the range 14000 ft then press ENTR. Asterisks
should move down.
– Impute your Elevation 1000 ft and press ENTR.

Coordinates imputes are complete.
– Press RTN on the DCS switch to return to the default
CNI page.

Reference attack waypoint 5.
480 kts at cherubs 500 ft or less, flying
straight to the target.
CCRP mode with weapons up. Radar
snoozed.
At approximately 5 miles to target the
solution cue will flash, check left up the hill
to the VIP.
Maintain a low profile and switch to CCIP
mode.
Pull-up to the VIP maintaining 480 kts and
fly through the circle.
At this point, roll right and pull into target to
get a visual of the tower. You will have only a
few seconds to align with the target and OA
cue.
Pickle your bombs dispensing chaff / flares
and check left to the VRP.
