Ashley Koby I, like so many other employees, have spent the last few weeks on storm duty in response to Hurricane Isaac damages throughout the southeast. As difficult as it is to observe the devastating results on the lives of others, it reminds us to be truly thankful for our many blessings.

Our blessings include the fact that we work for a great company that supports other utilities in time of need and has Target Zero at the core of our efforts. Our wish is to always send everyone back home safe and sound.

Our employees who work storm duty and those who remain behind in support of our efforts, both outside and inside our service territory, are to be commended for the great jobs they do day-in and day-out. One of our blessings is our loyal and dedicated co-workers.

With all of the demands of our daily jobs, our members continue to give back and enrich the lives of those in need in our communities as well as our employees, retirees and their families in time of need. Your tireless efforts on behalf of Citizens of Georgia Power is one of the greatest blessings of all.

Lighting Up Lives Awards

Four times during the year, we will recognize chapters chosen by the State Board for doing a GREAT job with projects, fundraising, membership drives, inputting information into CHARITY and CARES, and exemplifying what it means to be “A Citizen Wherever We Serve.” Nominations come from local management, state board members, and information submitted for the monthly Energizer.

Chapter South Cobb

The South Cobb Chapter officially became a part of our organization on September 1. This chapter will serve the area of Smyrna Environmental Lab and Plant McDonough. Special thanks to Plant McDonough Manager Tony Tramonte and Environmental Lab Services Manager Rickey Smith for their support in this endeavor. 1. Margaret Cagle

belongs to the Thomson Chapter. She was a charter member in 1962 in Rome. She served as State President in 1981/82.

2. Faye Gray

of the Tallulah Falls Chapter is a charter member of that chapter in 1962.

3. June Hemby

of the H L Thomas Chapter is a charter member. She was Waycross Chapter President in 1962 when the organization began.

4. Eugenie Rogers

of the Tifton Chapter is a charter member of that chapter in 1962.

You Can Help Support Electric Kids All Year Long

Now that the Kia Raffle to benefit Electric Kids is over, did you know you can support the charity to benefit the children of deceased and disabled employees monthly?

During 2011, we paid out $100,500 to assist children through Electric Kids. We need much more support than the Kia Raffle provides.

There are two options for helping: •If you are in the Club of Hearts Campaign Area, you can choose Electric Kids as one of your designated agencies during this years campaign and make monthly payroll deductions in 2013 or become a perpetual giver.

•If you live outside the COH area, you can go to the Electric Kids page on the Citizens website and sign a pledge sheet or log in to make monthly tax-deductible donations.

Metro West Supports United Way School Tools for Cool Kids

Metro West Chapter members and region employees donated school bags and supplies through the United Way School Tools for Cool Kids during August. Donated items were delivered to Compton Elementary, Floyd Middle and Powder Springs Elementary schools.

Augusta Chapter’s FANfair Summer Project

Dr. Chemara Jackson, Professional Counselor at Powder Springs Elementary is seen with chapter member Debbie Pendergrass.

A note from Teresa Hargrett, Principal of Floyd Middle School read: “Thank you all for the delivery of school supplies to benefit our students at Floyd Middle School. Your visit was a great surprise and contributed to a wonderful start of the school year. All supplies will be put to excellent use through our counselors and the small groups of needy students they work with on organization.” The Augusta Chapter held a FANfair as a Summer of Service Project to collect box fans for those in need. 24 box fans were collected and delivered to Augusta’s Salvation Army Kroc Center. The fans will be distributed by the Kroc Center’s First Stop Family Service Center to eligible individuals or families, with a priority given to the elderly.

Athens Chapter Supports Prevent Child Abuse Center Metro South Holds Back to School Drive for Feed My People

The Metro South Chapter supported a Back to School Drive for Feed My People. The school supply drive was to ensure that those in need and attending school have what they need to thrive in the classroom. Items were received by (p

) Executive Director Allyson Lewis. Their goal was to hand supplies out to 600 children in the metro area. Athens Chapter participated in a book drive for Prevent Child Abuse! Cal Holloway and Cheryl Davis (on right) delivered hundreds of books to Mary Hood at the Prevent Child Abuse Center in Athens on August 16. The center was completely out of books to distribute so the help came at just the right time. The books will be given to impoverished mothers to read to their infants.

Metro South Delivers Check To Clayton County Family Care, Inc.

On August 16, Metro South Chapter presented a check for

$2,591

to Clayton County Family Care, Inc. These funds were allocated from the Metro South Chapter’s 2012 Golf Tournament fundraising effort.

Athens Chapter

On August 24 the Athens Chapter helped the Athens Community Council on the Aging prepare for their grand opening of the new Athens Village by clearing the area around their entrance sign and planting a variety of flowers around the sign. The Athens Village will assist 250 to 300 seniors annually in the Athens area.

9 volunteers gave up their lunch hour to participate in the project. The flowers and soil were also donated by Citizens of Georgia Power. The Athens Village Grand opening was August 30 at the ACCA. People from across the nation attended.

Tallulah Falls

The Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, Macon Centreplex Host Chapters are General Office, Heart of GA/Macon, Milledgeville/Plant Branch, and Thomson.

Deadline for Registration is October 10.

Shown above is North Georgia Hydro Manager Barry Brookshire serving dinner to the Tallulah Falls Chapter at a recent meeting. Mr. Brookshire has been very supportive of the chapter in his new role as manager. The chapter’s membership has increased from 15 to 22. They sold $1530 in Kia tickets and through the end of August had reported 1574 community service hours.

Valdosta Chapter United Way Day of Caring

On August 24, the Valdosta Chapter participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring Event. The team was assigned to the Habitat for Humanity Restore located in Valdosta. The Restore sells donated (new and used) building materials, furniture and household items to the public. Funds raised aid in the construction of the Habitat for Humanity houses. The team helped sort and organize shelves both in the warehouse as well as in the store area.

Athens Chapter Provides Energy Efficiency Information

Citizens On August 25, the Athens Chapter worked a booth at the Chick-Fil-A Connect 3 on 3 tournament in downtown Athens. There were 100 teams and over 4000 participants. The group distributed Energy Efficiency material and Marathon Water Heater information. Habitat has Restores in other areas. The staff in Valdosta said that what was accomplished in the short time Citizens were there would have taken them a year to complete because there is such a small group to handle everything. When people think about Habitat, most think about the building process, which scares some people off. Restores is a great chance to introduce something new in support of Habitat.

Plant Yates Chapter Beautifies Whitesburg Elementary

Plant Yates Chapter had lots of volunteers that gave time in August and worked very hard to get Whitesburg Elementary ready for the new school year. The group replaced gravel, added shavings, and planted flowers to the Butterfly Garden located behind the school.

Athens Chapter Works at Winder Adult Day Care for UW Day of Caring …and Plant Yates Makes Donations

The clients and staff at Winder Adult Day Care were thrilled to see their friends from the Athens Chapter of Citizens of Georgia Power during the United Way Day of caring on August 29. Volunteers played carnival games with the clients and staff and made and distributed cotton candy, snow cones and prizes. Wanda Weldon chaired the Day of Caring for Northeast Region. Plant Yates Back to School Drive

Thanks to the employees at Plant Yates, the Citizens Chapter Back to School Drive was a great success. There were enough supplies donated (approximate $800 value) to donate to five schools in two counties (Carroll and Coweta).

At the Citizens Day held at Plant Yates on August 29, the chapter presented checks to the following agencies: •Relay For Life

Conyers Chapter Project Makes the Front Page in Rockdale County Newspaper

The chapter has already exceeded 2100 lbs of vegetables donated. In addition, the chapter also donated 320 lbs. of canned food collected. They are donating their $5000 Chapter Matching Funds to Rockdale Emergency Relief. Great project, Conyers!
